Thank you to our Northern Virginia Alumnae Volunteers at Think Pink with the Redskins this past Sunday: Susie Dreier, Nicole Stevens, Fran Vannicola, Mia Johnson, DeShaun Parker, Erin Froelich, Catherine Posey, John Posey, Christian Bowersox, Missy Wagler, Teresa Ebersole, Christine Searles, Kendall Semidey, Cheri & Madeline Emmert, Jessica Paschal, Cheryl Day, Melanie Walent, Karla Navario, Ashleigh Landers and last but not least Vicki Griffith.

There were more than 200 ZTA alumnae (Northern Virginia, Western Fairfax, Loudoun County, Silver Spring, DC) and collegians (Theta Chi, Iota Omega, Gamma Beta, Gamma Kappa, Kappa Phi) who handed out 64,000 ribbons and cards to Redskins fans!!!

On Saturday, October 1 we will be staffing the Clyde's Restaurant station at the Joe Gibb's Youth for Tomorrow Country Fair. Each of our volunteers will earn $50 for the chapter that will help fund our ZTA Foundation Recognition Scholarship. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Mia Johnson.

Passport to the Crown!

It's time to fill your calendar with all of the great ZTA Alumnae activities that are planned for this fall. The officers have taken your answers from the summer survey and planned activities with the goal of fun and interesting programming that will be the passport to earning a Crown Chapter Award at the 2012 ZTA International Convention.

The entire calendar is listed on the Calendar tab, but here is some information on upcoming events:

Fun FRED Fridays will return on the third Friday of every month, beginning August 19th.

Saturday, August 27:
Alumnae are needed to participate in a Preference Workshop with Theta Chi Chapter of ZTA at George Mason University from 10 am to noon.

In the afternoon, join us for a ZTA Cookout from 4-7 pm in Fairfax. Family and friends are welcome! ZTA will provide burgers/hot dogs/buns/ice. Please bring a side dish to share, beverages of your choice and lawn chairs. We will also use this as an opportunity to collect school supplies for a local elementary school.

Our annual White House Ornament sale will begin in September to raise money for the ZTAF Recognition Scholarship.

September 9:
Alumnae will provide dinner for Theta Chi Chapter members and advisors during Formal Recruitment.

September 21:
Annual Alumnae Reunion Party from 6:30-8 pm at the Front Page in Arlington.

Service: Food for Others
Northern Virginia Alumnae and Theta Chi Chapter together collected 300 lbs of food items for Food for Others. Volunteers packed enough boxes to cover 3 days of distribution! Thanks to Teresa, Susie, Nick, Lori Ann, Julie, Rachel, Fran and Katie!

Global Race for the Cure

A HUGE Thank You to all of the Northern Virginia Alumnae Global Race for the Cure volunteers! We had a wonderful Race Day with all of the Zetas from Northern Virginia, Western Fairfax, Washington DC and Silver Spring in the Survivor Tents – unpacking and setting up the food tables for the Survivors, their families & friends, working security, snapping photos and handing out Survivor goody bags. The survivors are truly AMAZING women and men.

Thanks to our NoVA ZTA and husband volunteers: Sara & Henning Iversen, Missy & Derrick Wagler, Amanda Meiklejohn, Dawn Salisbury, Susie Dreier, Fran Vannicola, Jackie McCain, Annette Foster and Laurie Hazel.

Cheers go out to Mia Johnson who organized a team in Celebration of her friend Lisa who is currently battling breast cancer. GO MIA!!!

Food for Others – Food Drive, March through June

Northern Virginia will be collecting non-perishable food items for the remainder of the year for the Food for Others food bank. Please bring at least 5 items to each event that you attend. On June 25, we will then stock the items we collected. Our goal is 1898 items! Tell your friends and family. Collect items at the office, church and local community centers!

Friday, April 15, 6PM, Happy Hour

After you have filed your taxes, although you have until April 18, stop by Spider Kelly’s in Falls Church for Happy Hour with the Northern Virginia Zetas! Please bring 5 items for the Food Drive!

NFL Fit for You 5K Walk/Run

Mrs. Tanya Snyder (ZTA Special Initiate), the Redskins and the NFL are working on another event here locally that they would love our support to help promote and participate in. This event will promote health and fitness and all proceeds will benefit the NFL Play60 Challenge, a joint program of the NFL and the American Heart Association. The day will be filled with fun events, including a Play60 area for kids; a chance to meet NFL alumni players, cheerleaders, and other members of the NFL family.

To volunteer at the event, contact Service Chair Teresa Maison at ctlwyer@msn.com.

To participate in the 5K Walk/Run, the fee is $5. Strollers are welcome. Team Zeta Tau Alpha has been created at http://women.nfl.com/nfl-fit-for-you.

August Service - School Supply Collection
We have contacted two area schools that are in need of supplies for their kids. If you plan to purchase some of the supplies, feel free to bring as much or as little as you like to the August Cooler. The Dollar Store, Walmart, and Target are great places for these items. If you'd rather contribute money, that will also be accepted! Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Theta Chi chapter would like to invite interested alumnae to assist them with their Preference Workshop. The members need assistance with their Preference conversation and would like to hold a "mock" Preference session, where the alumnae can take on the role of Potential New Members. The great benefit is that not only do the collegians get to practice, but also the alumnae can provide some great feedback and tips to help them out.
